We Came To Play – We’re Here To Stay

Mar25

The 2014/2015 season was Turnford’s first in the National Premier League One. While the season had its ups and downs, one thing remained constant – the hard work of every member of the squad. And as promised, that hard work has paid off as the team finished in a respectable 7th position and have secured their place for next season. Well done to the entire team, coaching staff, families and valued supporters.

Below is the report for the final match of the season from Turnford Head Coach Carole Titmuss:

MATCH REPORT
Turnford travelled to Leeds for their last match of the season. The squad of 11 players plus coach Danielle Titmuss travelled up to leeds the night before so they could be fresh and focused for the early start. The game got underway and from the first step on court it could be seen Turnford were determined to make sure there would be no ‘play – off up north hotel
bookings’ for them. All eleven players took to the court and all 11 players played their hearts out. Accurate shooting from Georgina Fisher and Ann-Marie Dwyer coupled with great feed from the centre court of Clare Drakeford, Holly Sims and Sophie Carter ensured the opportunities given were converted. But special mention must be made of the incredible defensive play of (Player of the match ) Bea Skingsley , Megan Clarke, Sam May, Kathryn Titmuss, Hayley Mackellar and Sarah
Davis preventing many many conversions from the Leeds opponents.

This win can be put down as THE solid team effort of the season. Coach Danielle Titmuss stated how proud she was of the squad and is looking forward to enjoying premier 1 status, with them, next season.

The squad consisted of: Georgina Fisher, Holly Sims, Ann-Marie Dwyer,Clare Drakeford, Sophie Carter, Kathryn Titmuss, Sarah Davis, Hayley Mackellar, Bea Skingsley, Megan Clarke and Sam May.

The Weekend That Was – NETBALL NETBALL NETBALL

Mar13

For the girls of Turnford most weekends are netball netball netball but the weekend that has passed was especially netball filled. With so many different matches and activities going on for the Turnford Family, we wanted to share a quick overview of the fun with you all. Let us know if you were at any of these occasions and what you thought!

It all started on Saturday in North London…

North London Junior Netball League

Netball London Live – Crazy Catch Fanzone
Immediately following the North London match the U13 team hot footed it to The Copperbox @ The Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park where they were due to take part in the Crazy Catch Fanzone all day. Working with England Netballer Stacey Francis and helping run the various fun competitions Crazy Catch had laid on – from a 1 minute shooting comp to the 1 minute Crazy Catch Challenge. The zone was packed solid all day and the girls had a lot of fun. They also had the opportunity to watch both the NPL and NSL games with Stacey Francis – I’m not sure who was shouting louder – the girls or Stacey!

The girls were lucky enough to work alongside England Defender Stacey Francis who had this to say about the day:

“It was great to be involved with Crazy Catch at such a big event for domestic netball and an added bonus was not only getting to meet so many netball fans but also to witness how the Turnford girls took their on court skills off court to help run the fanzone with efficiency and fun. Well Done Girls!”

While all of this was going on ‘down South’, Hull was playing host to the U17 Euros. Turnford were once again so proud to be represented in the England Team by Super Shooter Georgina Fisher. With three big wins, England won the championship (And George her puppy! #teampuppy). Well done George you are an amazing role model to the younger girls at Turnford.

Here’s what George had to say about the weekend:

“It was an amazing experience walking out in the red & white dress again. You feel really proud representing your country. There was a great crowd and we had a great team with loads of talent. Hearing the National Anthem played at the end of the completion symbolising the fact we won and receiving our medals and caps makes all the hard work worth it.”

And that is the end of our huge NETBALL NETBALL NETBALL weekend round up. It was as busy a netball weekend as we’ve ever seen and the Turnford girls did the club proud in every instance. Now – when’s the next match 😉
