Its Time for Trials – Wednesday 3rd June

2014/2015 was a bumper season for Turnford’s seniors. The first season for Turnford in the National Premier League Div 1 saw them cement their 2015/16 place in the highest level of club netball and the Regional team finished a worthy 6th in East Region Div 1. The teams are looking to do even better next season and so we invite you to join trials for both of these teams on Wednesday 3rd June at Hertfordshire University, De Havilland Campus Hatfield 7pm – 9pm.

You can download the application form here TNC Trial letter 2015

If selected for either squad there is an expectation that you will commit to both training and fixtures – failure to attend training may impact on your selection for fixtures. Training will be held on Wednesdays at the Herts Regional College, Broxbourne Campus 7:30- 9:00pm.

A Weekend of Tournament Wins for The Talented Teams of Turnford

all crosskeys

This weekend the Juniors of Turnford were out in force for the first tournaments of the season. Having put in the hard work through a cold winter, the players, parents and coaches were hoping for some great play – and they were well rewarded.

Kicking off with the CD Phoenix tournament on Saturday, the U14’s and coach Kathryn Titmuss were flying the lone flag for Turnford due to league commitments for the other teams. The U14’s did not let us down – in a round robin tournament they were unbeaten in all 10 of their matches – winning 9 and drawing 1 and scoring over 100 goals in the process.

Then, on Sunday, it was on to the Crosskeys tournament in Harlow. Here, the Turnford Juniors were out in force with teams representing the U11, U12, U13 a & b , U14 and U15. It has been said that ‘Talent Wins Games, but Teamwork Wins Tournaments’ and the Turnford teams embodied this today. Everyone worked hard, but most importantly they worked for each other. We were also proud to see parents and players out supporting Turnford teams other than their own.

This teamwork and determination paid off and Turnford came away winning the U11, U13 and U14 sections. The U12s were also worthy runners up.

The U11 and U13 a teams both won every single one of their games throughout the day including great finals.

The U14s won all but one of their games when they lost to Manor in the group rounds. However, the two teams met again in the final and Turnford were able to avenge that loss winning 7-5.

(sorry for the blurry pic – photographer was shaking with excitement!!)

And finally, the U12s lost to the most narrow of margins in their final – after drawing the game they went down on golden goal. Don’t worry girls – we know you are going to see tournament victories this season!

Well done to all the Turnford Juniors that played today. Huge thanks also to the coaches that gave their time over the weekend and to the parents that got up super early, made packed lunches, and shouted themselves hoarse courtside. EVERYONE’s HARD WORK PAYS OFF.

Let me leave you with this happy pic of our fab girls sat together for the prize giving – Work hard, Intensity, Never give up!

Turnford Girls crowned Double School National Champions

Congratulations to Turnford girls Sienna Rushton (GS) and Frankie Baylis (GK) who top and tail the Berkhamsted School National Champions U13 Netball team.

Berkhamsted were the WINNERS of the Schools Sports Magazine National Final on Wednesday 25th March: winning, by an impressive, 44-19 against Beaconsfield. It was a fiercely contested game which involved end to end play for the whole hour. Sienna achieved impressive goal stats and gave the crowds a fabulous masterclass in ‘holding’ whilst, as Beaconsfield discovered, Frankie was literally unshakeable in defence. As one spectator shouted – ‘what a lean!’

This victory follows close behind Berkhamsted’s other national netball title: U13 ISNC winners. The girls beating Stockport in a nail biting final at Redbridge Sports Stadium 39-22 on Friday 20th March.

Great to see our girls working hard for their schools at the top level – better never stops! The whole club is so proud of you girls…

Double Regional Winners 2015 – Turnford U14 and U16

Last Sunday Turnford’s U14s and U16s attended the Bedfordshire Academy for the Regional round of the National Club Championships. Despite the horrific weather Turnford were able to take home the winners trophies in both age groups.

In the U14 section Turnford had a fantastic morning. Despite crazy weather the girls were able to adapt their play and apply themselves in every game. With the superb shooting of Emily Sabatino, Andriana Robinson and Abbie Bromley, Turnford were able to take impressive wins over their opponents in the group rounds, with big wins of 15-4 against Cranfield, 15-3 against Norfolk, 11-1 against Thetford, 6-1 against Conquerors and 15-1 against Co-Jags.

The quarter finals took a similar path with a huge win of 24-1 against Saffron Hawks. Then onto the semis against Chelmsford, Turnford took a while to settle and allowed their opponents a three goal lead. But with outstanding defence from Busola Femi-Gureje and Lucy Millbery they were able to pull themselves back into the game, taking the win 7-4. The finals were another nail biter facing fellow Hertfordshire team ASCO. The game again went to extra time but with Turnford proving, once more, their control under pressure -took the win 7-6 and the East Region Championship title. Coach, Kathryn Titmuss was delighted with their play and focus in very extreme weather conditions and they will travel to Newcastle for their finals on 23rd/24th May.

SQUAD: Busola Femi-Gureje, Ella Warmerdan, Lucy Millbery, Nikki Skinner, Evie Herrick, Katy Harris, Katherine Wingfield, Abbie Bromley, Jasmine Harvey-Stone, Andriana Robinson, Emily Sabatino

In the U16 section there was no club that could match the incredible class of the Turnford side. Turnford scored 147 goals with only 28 against them. In their rounds they took Conquerors 24-9, Wyvern Grangers 19-7, Norfolk United 24-2 and Saffron Hawks 16-2. In the quarter finals they were placed against Westoning but once again they were no match for this exceptional Turnford side and Turnford breezed into the semi finals 27-1. They once again met Conquerors but again Turnford took the game 19-5, this led them into the finals where they met the strong side of Eastwood from Essex. But not strong enough, with the excellent defending of Niamh Burns, Zara Everitt, Abigail Hackett and Rebecca Palmer, making many turnarounds to feed the centre court of Esme Scott Hewitt, Izzy Stibbs and Georgia Satwick to allow the shooters, Georgina Fisher, Jasmine Bowman and Emily Carrington to convert goal after goal. With the final score of 17-3, allowing Turnford to take the Championship title.

Coach, Carole Titmuss, stated how proud she was of every single player and they will now look forward to the finals on May 2nd and 3rd which will be held in Redbridge.

The whole club is incredibly proud of both squads and will be cheering them on at NATIONALS!
