This past weekend saw two big matches for the senior teams of Turnford, with the Regional team facing MK Netters and the National Prem 1 side facing Hucculcote. Both teams emerged victorious and maintain strong positions in their respective leagues.
Turnford 45 V MK Netters 23
The regional game against MK Netters kicked off the weekend’s competition on Saturday. All squad members were on fire from when they first took to the court. The defence can only be described as truly awesome with turnaround after turnaround from Beth Hatherly, Zara Everitt and Laura O’Mahoney – feeding through from centre court to the shooters. Lottie Morrison (player of the match given by the opposition) slotting them in one after the other.
Jasmine Hatherly, a game player taking what ever bib she is given and playing each role equally with grit and determination, captained well encouraging the whole squad. Holly Peck also added to the defensive play intercepting many balls working well with Georgia Satwick to feed back into the attacking half.
Turnford took the game 45 – 23.
Head Coach Carole Titmuss stated how proud she was of the great team effort making this 3 out of 3 wins.
The squad consisted of: Lottie Morrison(POM), Jasmine Hatherly(C), Georgia Satwick, Holly Peck, Laura O’Mahoney, Zara Everitt, Beth Hatherly, Jasmine Bowman and Scarlett Barnes.
NATIONAL PREM ONE
Turnford 58 v Hucclecote 40
Sunday was the turn of the National Prem One team and Turnford travelled to Gloucester to play Huccelcote in round three of this top flight league. Turnford knew they had to win this game to secure a mid table position. They needed to start the game strong and this they did. The starting 7 of Georgina Fisher, Holly Sims, Hannah Joseph, Kathryn Titmuss (c), Sarah Davis, Sam May and Bea Skingsley, were able to take an early 10-4 lead but with a few missed shots and errors that Hucclecote capitalised on, the first quarter finished 14-14.
Coach Danielle Titmuss made no changes to the second quarter and Turnford found their rhythm finishing off the first half leading 32-24. In the third quarter K. Titmuss moved to WD, Hayley Mackeller came on as GK and Turnford extended their lead – driven by strong turnovers from defensive unit Mackeller, May and Titmuss that Fisher and Sims found easy to convert. The quarter ended with Turnford holding an 11 goal lead.
It was important to stay focused and finish strongly in the final quarter and this is just what Turnford achieved, doing what they set out to do, taking the game and more importantly 5 points. Final score 40-58 to Turnford. The team now sit 5th in the league. The latest standings can be viewed here.
