England Call Up for Three of Turnford’s Juniors

Turnford are delighted to announce the success of three of their
girls at England level.
Ellie Newman and 14 year old Georgina Fisher were selected for the
U17 squad and Sophie Carter was selected for the U19 squad.
Georgina who is a pupil at the John Warner School has been a member
of Turnford’s Netball Club since she was nine years of age. She has
always been a dedicated and hard working team member and we are
extremely proud of her, especially as she is one of the youngest to
be selected. 16 year old Ellie Newman a pupil at Broxbourne School.
Who is not only a player Turnford can be proud of but she also works
hard as a coach to younger members of the club.
17 year old Sophie Carter, a pupil at St Albans High School, has been
a member of Turnford Netball Club since she started playing at the
late age of 11.
Since then she has gone from strength to strength and again we are
truly proud of her achievement. Both of these girls have been playing
for and training with Maverick Youth, the local NTL squad.
With these three new members this puts Turnford’s national playing
record up to 19 members.

Turnford’s juniors were out in full force to support England in their quest to make history by winning their first ever test match against the Aussies! A coach load of 80 plus 20 more supporters (all with face paint!!) attended the second match in the England test series at Wembley. Having already won the first match, England needed a win to take the test series. It was a close game throughout but England stormed to victory to take the series. An inspiring night was had by all.

Turnford’s Youth take Superleague NTL by storm

8 of Turnford’s junior players have been selected for National Talent League teams. This is a huge achievement for both the girls and the club. Ellie Newman, Stephanie Lewis-Smith, Sophie Carter, Holly Sims, Charlotte Ramejkis and 14 year old George Fisher have all been selected for Hertfordshire Mavericks, whilst Rebecca Suzan was selected for Team South and Emily Gulvin for Surrey Storm. Congratulations girls!

Carole Titmuss and Cathy Williams, along with ten Turnford tourists made their way to Heathrow in the early hours of Monday morning 29th October. Their aim was to play the Maltese sides of the highest calibre, culminating in a match against the Maltese National side.
This Turnford side was a source to be reckoned with and their first match against Maltese first division squad Strikers resulted in a comfortable win for Turnford 46:14.

The following day was Halloween and Turnford visited the majestic and rustic Popeye Village which is home to the 1980 Popeye Live Action Movie. Constructed solely for shooting the Jules Feiffer adaption of E C Segarโ€™s classic one-eyed sailor. The village became Popeyeโ€™s Haunted Village due to it being Halloween and there truly was not a haunted attraction scarier. The girls and officials had a fun scary evening.

The next match for Turnford was against another of Maltaโ€™s first division squad Kizers, but again the strong side of Turnford proved no match and Turnford ran out winners 46:24.Turnford continued their tour the following day by visiting the largest shopping mall on Malta. A few souvenirs were purchased. Friday was spent at the Golden Bay resort where the girls enjoyed 80 degree heat riding the waves on a banana
boat. On day five the final game was against a squad that consisted of some of Maltese national players. Turnford were apprehensive but excited. The Maltese side were a lot more aggressive than the Turnford side, but skill wise they were no match. At half time the score lay at 33:15. All nine players were able to take court and the final score was 56:30. A result Turnford are rightly proud of.

National Championships

Turnford Netball Club’s U14’s will join their U16 counterparts representing Hertfordshire in the regional rounds of the National Champoinships. This very strong squad proved too strong for their oponents, St Albans, Hertford Hornets, Watford Premier, Shelley and Hatfield with no club scoring even half of Turnford’s points.

The first region round will be against Norfolk on 10th January

Turnford would like to wish squad members: – Nina Pattison, Rebecca Suzanne, Beth Hatherly, Lauren Drabwell, Stephanie Lewis-Smith, Jessica Murella, Devon Ricketts, Amber Forrow, Kate Green, Ellie Newman, Lottie Morrison and Scarlett Barnes good luck in their quest for National Winners.
