It was going to be an important match for the Prem squad this weekend playing against the Hartlepool team that they last year sent to playoffs. Turnford and Oaksway were joint on points in the league table and both squads knew that the game was going to see one go ahead of the other.
With the match closely following the Herts County Round of U14 and U16 Nationals, Turnford were supported by a huge showing from the Turnford Family. With this great support, Turnford started strong and took the first quarter by one goal. The second quarter was sadly very different. With Oaksway taking advantage of loose defence and the attack struggling to combat the zone defence put on by an experienced side, Turnford finished the first half 6 goals down.
Changes saw Zara Everitt move to GK and George Fisher come on at GS. Turnford took the first four goals to narrow the score line. Unfortunately a series of errors made by the Black and Yellow meant they couldn’t quite take the lead. They finished the game with a 56-52 loss. The only consolation being that they were within the four goal margin and able to claim two points instead of 1. Turnford look forward to the battle again in the second half of the season.
The squad consisted of Hayley Mackellar, Bea Skingsley, Sarah Davis, Kathryn Titmuss, Zara Everitt, Holly Sim, Ann-Marie Dwyer, Georgina Fisher.
The team and coaches would like to thank all the supporters that attended the match – their presence was felt throughout. We hope to see you again at many more matches and hope to reward your attendance with more great netball and WINs.
