After an energetic pre season and with new blood in the team, the Prem 1 squad were eager to get the 2015/16 season underway with an away match against Viper Blades from Hampshire last Sunday. With Blades newly qualified for Prem 1, the two teams had not played each other in this format last year so this was a chance to set the pace for the season ahead.

The first quarter saw a nervous Turnford side and was unfortunately littered with errors – all the way down court. However Turnford were able to take a narrow lead 11:9. Turnford still did not settle in Q2 and by the end of the first half the score lay even at 18 goals each. Turnford really needed to blow away the cob webs and play their style of netball. They were going at maximum speed but needed to relax and enjoy the game – to live by the Turnford Code – Work hard with Intensity and Never give up (W.I.N.)

Going into the second half Turnford did settle and got into their own rhythm and began to play with confidence. They took full advantage of their opponents mistakes and scored off of all their centre passes. Georgina Fisher’s 95% shooting accuracy certainly helped to lift the spirits of the squad but player of the match, GD Sam May, brought her disciplined style and determination to the game and Turnford were delighted to take the win 49:40.

This result means Turnford come out of Round One weekend in 3rd position in the league table – a strong start that the team is hungry to build on. All of the Premier League Round One results can be found here.
