Seniors – Back to Winning Ways
Premier League One – Turnford 53 V Team Bath Toucans 44
The latest round of the Premier League was to be a home match for Turnford. It was held at Wodson Park, with many supporters present to witness an outstanding array of skilful netball. The Turnford squad were in control throughout this match and were in front at every stage of the game. This was a welcome lift for the squad and after a small run of disappointingly close defeats, they were keen to get back to winning ways.
After the first quarter, with excellent centre court play from Sophie Carter and Holly Sims, Turnford went ahead 13:10. Turnford continued to dig deep throughout and again the excellent defence of Sam May and Bea Skingsley made important turnovers allowing the shooters to slot them in one after the other. Turnford were up by six goals going into the second half.
Coach Ann-Marie Dwyer brought on the fresh legs of WA Clare Drakeford and at the end of the third quarter Turnford were leading 41:34. Into the last quarter and not once did Turnford take their foot of the pedal, working hard until the final whistle. Special mention must be made of player of the match Lottie Morrison whose movement skills within the shooting circle along with her excellent shooting stats of 90% helped the Turnford squad take this all important win by 9 goals – 53:44.
The squad: Bea Skingsley, Sophie Carter, Sarah Davis, Holly Sims, Georgina Fisher,Lottie Morrison, Clare Drakeford, Sam May and Beth Hatherly.
The U14s and U16s were also playing at the same time as the Prem squad in the first round of the Club National Championships held at Stanborough, Welwyn Garden City. We are so proud that once again, both Turnford teams go forward to represent Hertfordshire in the East Regional round next March.
The U14s played well beating Abbey Flyers 12:1, Crosskeys 12:9, Hatfield 11:1, Hertford Heath Rangers 12:4, Hertford Hornets 13:4, Watford Premier 12:1 and SAS 16:2. They had a loss to Asco 10:4 but had done enough to go through.
The squad: Ella Warmerdam, Emily Sabatino, Andriana Robinson, Evie Herrick, Nikki Skinner, Abbi Bromley, Busola Semi-Gureje, Lucy Millbury, Katie Harris, Jasmine Harvey-Stone, Sienna Rushton and Katherine Wingfield.
This team did not lose a game all day and the shooting stats of the players during the course of the tournament were truly excellent. with Georgina Fisher at 100%, Jasmine Bowman 84%, Emily Carrington 87% and player of the tournament Georgia Satwick 75%. The whole squad stayed focused and determined and their scores reflected this beating Abbey Flyers 13:1, Crosskeys 13:9, Hatfield 10:7, Hornets 19:6, SAS 27:1, and drawing with Asco 10:10.
The squad: Georgia Satwick, Georgina Fisher, Jasmine Bowman, Izzy Stibbs, Emily Carrington, Rebecca Palmer, Esme Scott Hewitt, Niamh Burns Abbi Hackett, Amba Gooden and Georgia Sargent.
