As the busy summer season of tournaments draws to a close, the Turnford girls were once again strutting their stuff a few weeks ago at both the Essex Open and St Alban’s tournaments.
ESSEX OPEN TOURNAMENT:
Turnford were out in force at the Essex tournament With 7 teams from U11 all the way up to two Senior Turnford teams in the Open section. This was a fantastic opportunity for the youngsters of Turnford to watch their senior role models in action and for the Turnford Family to come together and enjoy an excellent day’s netball. And an excellent day it was with the U11 and U13 teams reigning victorious and runner up spots for the U14s and one of the Senior teams.
The u11a kicked off the day with convincing victories over Hornets b 15-1, Essex open 14-0, New Campbell 11-0 and Brentwood 12-2. Their final group game was against Redbridge and despite a slow start, Turnford took the match 9-5. The semi final saw Turnford face up to local rivals Hornets A but Turnford came out strong from the start and took the win with an impressive score line of 16-3. The final was against Woodley, but fantastic defence from Tianna Quartey, Mia Andrews, Sophie Lennon and Peace Akinyemi meant that nothing got past Turnford in the second half and Turnford took the game 6-3.
The u11b enjoyed a day of victories against Redbridge, CD Phoenix, AP Saints and Marshalls, losing out to Essex Open in the quarter finals.
U11a-Abby Hockney, Marcie Howell, Bella Baylis, Hannah Parkinson, Emily squires, Neave Wilson, Tianna Quartey, Sophie Lennon, Mia Andrews, Peace Akinyemi

The U12s performed very well in their group, making it all the way to their Semi-finals where they lost to Poole 5-10.
The U13s, once again showed their pedigree and the win of this tournament meant they had not lost a tournament all season. They had wins against Essex open 12:4, Norfolk 13:2, Brentwood 14:3, Academy 10:4, and Marshals 18:1. This showed the strength of the defence Freya Keohane, Frankie Baylis , Emily Carter and player of the tournament Jasmine Harvey-Stone, allowing only 14 goals past them.
This put the squad through to the quarter finals against CD Pheonix but again the defense did not allow them much grace and the centre court of Courtney Ferns and Megan Thomas took the ball confidently own court and fed the shooters Sienna Rushton and Evie Pringle to convert their chances with ease and they took the match 14:4.
The semi final was a tighter affair – Having not met much opposition, all day, the Turnford squad took their foot of the pedal, but none the less they took the game 7:6 putting them through to a final against Woodley. This time they knew, start as they mean to finish and so they did winning by a remarkable 14:5.
The squad consisted of Freya Keohane, Frankie Baylis, Megan Thomas, Jasmine Harvey-Stone, Evie Pringle, Courtney Ferns, Emily Carter and Sienna Rushton.
The U14s had an excellent day beating all presented to them throughout the day but the finals was not to be theirs and they lost to the host Team Essex by 2 goals. – but they can be proud of how they have performed this season.
The squad consisted of Nikki Skinner, Katy Harris, Evie Herrick , Abbie Bromley, Busola Gureje, Lucy Milbury and Emily Sabertino.
