Last weekend Turnford welcomed top of the table New Cambell to our home court for the first match up of the season between the two teams. And what an exciting match it was. With a depleted squad, Turnford arrived at Wodson Park perhaps a little apprehensive. Once again GS Georgina Fisher and WA Hannah Joseph were unavailable due to other England Duties and GK Hayley Mackellar was out injured. But Turnford are in the enviable position of being able to pull up players from the very strong regional squad. Zara Everitt, Emily Gulvin and Laura O’Mahoney stepped up to the mark, eager to play their part.

Every player dug deep in what can only be described as a fantastic display of quality netball. Turnford took a lead from the start with the accurate shooting from player of the match Ann-Marie Dwyer and a tighter than tight defensive pairing ensuring we had pulled away by 7 goals in the third quarter. With only one pair of fresh legs on the bench it would be hard to maintain this intensity through to the final whistle. But Turnford showed fantastic heart and continued to work hard as a team and when that whistle blew we had taken the game 52:51.

(Editors Note: Being lucky enough to watch this encounter I can only say that Amo’s shooting was on fire – she was queen of the long bomb!)

Coach Danielle Titmuss stated how proud she was of the hard working squad. They certainly entertained the many supporters (huge thanks as always to the Black and Yellow Family).

Our squad consisted of Ann-Marie Dwyer, Holly Sim, Emily Gulvin, Kathryn Titmuss, Zara Everitt, Laura O’Mahoney, Sam May and Bea Skingsley.

It was an all round winning weened with the regional squad adding another win to their list on Saturday beating Hatfield 44:31. They remain unbeaten and top of the table.
